The revolutionary new invention LUKE arm

The prosthetic arms will be soon in the market to help amputees. The revolutionary new invention is invented by DARPA (Deka Research and Development Corp.)

It has capability of translating signals of patient’s muscles into complex motions. Labeled the LUKE (Life under Kinetic Evolution) arm by Mobius Bionics, a leading medical device maker and will be marketed by Universal Instruments Corporation.

The LUKE arm’s central control technology consists of electromyogram (EMG) electrodes which are designed to catch electrical signals from the patient’s muscles. The new invention is able to translate signals about how much movement, control and strength to the arm.

The LUKE arm has number of benefits to amputees which can reach overhead and behind the back by its well-designed powered shoulder joint. It is strong enough to lift a bag of groceries and a glass of water with safe distance without spilling. The hand includes four motors that can hold heavy items and even hold an egg without dropping and breaking.

The LUKE arm has a sensor that also returns the information to the patient about how firmly any device is grasped. The wireless foot mounted inertial measurement sensors are used to control the arm.

The LUKE arm has tested on nearly 100 amputees and has been developed by DARPA, the U.S Veteran administration and private companies.

Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation launched bio-diesel passenger bus

Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation has launched bio-diesel passenger bus which will run on route between Bengaluru and Cheenai. It is the first kind of bus operating entirely on bio-diesel.

The project is on trial basis and will be increasing for more buses in the coming days. Increased pollution by public transports is causing serious effects on environment, and such a types of projects will help to reduce the gas emissions and contribute to the greener environment.

There are one lakh and fifty thousand buses are running on road in India by State Road Transport Departments and 7 core passengers in the country are using this facility daily, numbers are three times than Indian Railways.300 corers liters of diesel is consuming every day.

This would save the money for fuel and help for less pollution. This is the first time of example in the country where such type of initiative has been taken, and Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is planning to extend it to 17000 buses.
